Recently, I had a friend come look at my ‘fairy village’. He said my work inspired him so greatly, he rushed home to write the following beautiful sentiment… I hope I am worthy of it!
“In a day and age where little of value is regarded as precious, artist Elisabeth Finn brings new import to the word. Miss Finn in her own unique way offers hand wrought one-of-a-kind tableaux which takes one on a whimsical journey that begins “Beneath the Leaf”…Just a quick slip and a spin down the Rabbit Hole and through a gateway into uncharted lands…Miss Finn’s imagination runs wild creating worlds of pumpkins and quail; Easter eggs and peeps bedecked with ribbon streamers; ladybugs lunching on lichen landscapes; worlds that wee folk will squeal with delight at and adults can only dream of.
As magical as the accoutrements are, they merely provide the icing on the cake. It is in the rendering of the worlds themselves – a vintage radio becomes an aged mansion for mud ducks and magpies; cardboard suitcases with netting become a playground for pippins that have a penchant for reading books on the floral and fauna of their habitat. Dwellings both celestial and of this worldly realm, are best viewed in the round as every angle offers nooks and crannies replete with lush appointments and unconventional parings of creatures and creature comforts.
Miss Finn lends credentials of coquettish charm and whimsy as her creations come full circle given a back story for the characters on twig perched easels. To find Miss Finn’s childhood dreamscapes, remember that one must first look “Beneath the Leaf”.” Robert H. MacGinnes, III Master of Arts in Humanities Critic at Large |
